Join Valencia Water Watchers on Friday, February 16th at a PROTEST RALLY for Public Comment about the Los Lunas decision on Niagara.
Participants will gather at Main Street Memorial Park in Los Lunas at 12:00 noon (643 Main Street – across Main St. from the Los Lunas Administration building).
Bring the public comments you were going to share with the Village Councilors – You WILL be heard at our event. And we will spread the word — your words — after this event.
Background: On Feb. 8th, two Los Lunas Councilors and the Mayor voted to allow Niagara Bottling to take MORE and MORE water from the Rio Grande aquifer. (C. Ortiz, J. Runyon, and Mayor Griego all voted YES.)
Niagara was already extracting more than 93 million gallons/year,
and now they’ve been approved to increase that to 195 million gallons/year.
The council chambers were packed to capacity — More than 50 concerned residents came to speak up against Niagara’s water grab. In an unbelievably tone-deaf move, Mayor Griego declared “We are not… Clearly NOT going to be opening this up for any public comment.”
Watch it here: Mayor Griego denies the people’s right to make public comment
