The theme of our annual fall gathering was Perservering in Beauty and Joy!  The event was held on Wednesday, October 16, at First Unitarian Church in Albuquerque.  Here are a couple of videos, followed by several photographs.

Seed and Sprout Awards

The Seed Awards were presented to the M.T.O. Shamagh School of Islamic Sufism, Community of Joy Lutheran Church, First Congregational United Church of Christ and Upaya Zen Center.

The Sprout Award was presented to Dr. Ladona D. Clayton, E.D., Oglalla Land and Water Conservancy

Music, Song and Table Displays

Our evening included a time of prayer and centering with original musical offerings from cellist, Keely Mackey as well as artist, Elizabeth Margit-Anne.

A Special Honor for Sister Joan Brown

The board of directors of IPL New Mexico & El Paso presented Sister Joan Brown with a special recognition for her many years as executive director of the organizations. Sr. Joan is phasing out of the position to focus more on our work in the Permian Basin of New Mexico.

 

National IPL Prays for All in the Wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Calls for Climate Action

The team at Interfaith Power & Light is praying for all those impacted by #Milton and #Helene,

“Our many varied faith traditions have taught us the power of prayer and the values of love and compassion. In the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the team at Interfaith Power & Light and our network of state affiliates offer our deepest prayers, from our multitude of spiritual backgrounds, for the individuals and families who have lost loved ones, their homes, and their livelihoods in these disasters. We pray for the communities continuing to be impacted by the lack of clean water or electricity, for the aid workers and emergency responders, and for the congregations in impacted areas continuing to provide strength and support for their communities in strained circumstances.

American workers collectively invest trillions of dollars in their retirement funds, often through employer-sponsored 401(k) and 403(b) plans. These retirement plans, in turn, often invest heavily in fossil fuels. As people of faith and conscience, we are tasked with building a more just world – one that is in line with our moral values of protecting our most vulnerable siblings and being faithful stewards of the Earth. This leaves workers to choose between compromising their values (by investing in and profiting from harmful fossil fuel development) and compromising the security of their retirement. People of faith shouldn’t have to make that choice. Instead, faithful workers should have the right to opt into retirement funds whose investments do not violate their fundamental moral responsibilities.
