Please join the Albuquerque Sikh Gurudwara for a celebration of its annual Samagam, or gathering of the faithful, this MLK, Jr. holiday weekend, starting Friday, Jan. 13 to Monday, Jan. 16th, 2023. 1905 Alvarado Dr NE Albuquerque, NM 87110
For Sikhs, the modern meaning of a samagam (gathering) is a type of moving “folk revival,” which will begin this year in Albuquerque and then rotate around the United States, Mexico, and Canada throughout the remainder of 2023. The idea is for the faithful—who visit us from around the country and the world—to congregate for a weekend of meditation, prayer, music, food, and fellowship—as a form of spiritual renewal.
Both the morning and evening sessions are mostly identical. Here are the times for the music and meal portions only, which are the best time for non-Sikhs to visit. The music should be wonderful, and is played in “smagam-style” which is often spiritually charged and energetic, especially in the evenings.
Schedule
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Evening: Music from 7pm-9pm, prayer, then a meal.
Saturday, Sunday, and Monday Morning/Afternoon: Music from 10am-12n, prayer, then a meal.
All attendees are required to cover the heads and remove their shoes (socks are OK) while inside. Clean head-coverings are provided, but please feel free to bring your own scarf. Please dress comfortably and respectfully (though colorful is fine) and in layers (to remove if it gets warm inside the worship hall). The worship hall will be full, so keep that in mind, and you will be sitting in somewhat close proximity to others. Face masks are optional, and hand sanitizer will be abundant.
