Benefits of Heat Pump for Southwest Homes

May 18, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:15 pm

The Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) is excited to release its new study on the benefits of heat pumps for Southwest homes, but we need a bit more time to put some finishing touches on it. As a result, the webinar coinciding with its release will be postponed one more week. If you have already registered, your registration will still be valid. If not, then please do so here.

The webinar will now take place on Wednesday, May 18 at 11:00am-12:15pm Mountain Standard Time. We will highlight the economic and greenhouse gas (GHG) benefits of heat pumps and heat pump water heaters (HPWHs) for new and existing single-family homes in the Southwest states, with data drawn directly from the new study.

Compared to gas heating, SWEEP’s study found that heat pumps reduce annual heating costs in the warmer climates (e.g., Las Vegas and Phoenix), but heating costs will be the same or slightly higher in the colder climates (e.g., Reno and Salt Lake City). In all Southwest states’ climate zones, we provide recommendations for higher utility rebates for heat pumps and HPWHs, justified by the significant carbon emission benefits.

In addition, a representative from ICAST will highlight the benefits of heat pumps and HPWHs and energy efficiency for multi-family homes in the region.

Speakers include:

  • Neil Kolwey, Industrial Program Director, SWEEP
  • David Petroy, Founder, NTS Energy Consulting
  • Robert Foley, Auditor, iCAST
