The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is considering a once-in-a-generation change to how they manage public lands. As part of this process, they are hosting a meeting in Albuquerque, NM on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. MT at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, (401 12th St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87104)!
to gather input from the public.
Historically, BLM’s management of public lands has favored extractive uses over conservation and recreation. 90% of BLM public lands in the lower 48 states are open to leasing for oil and gas. The vast majority of these places are also open to hard rock mining.
Now, BLM has launched a comment period to gather feedback about how it should balance its mission and focus on conservation, recreation, wildlife, and cultural lands protections. This is a historic opportunity to shape the future of public lands.
And if you haven’t yet, please submit a comment to the Bureau of Land Management today in support of this effort!
