HB 35: Children’s Health Protection Zones is up for its 2nd committee hearing with the House Health & Human Services Committee (HHHSC) this Wednesday at 8:30 am!
HB 35 prohibits new oil and gas facilities within a 1-mile setback of public schools and requires more stringent pollution controls, monitoring, and reporting to meet the minimum distance recommended by scientific studies to reduce harms of oil and gas air pollution from nearby facilities. Rising ozone and daily leaking and venting of toxic pollutants including nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter, benzene, ethyl-benzene, and toluene cause a plethora of harmful impacts including headaches, bloody noses, respiratory illnesses including asthma, cancer, and neurological disorders.
