Join a coalition of climate justice and environmental groups (including IPL NM-El Paso) at rally and delivery of a letter to the Bureau of Land Management Santa Fe headquarters calling on the agency to cancel its plans to auction off over 10,000 acres of public and ancestral lands for oil and gas extraction on May 25.
Since 2016, our groups have protested in person at BLM offices and delivered millions of public comments challenging BLM oil and gas lease sales, despite BLM moving these oil and gas auctions online.
We will host speakers, music, photo opportunities, and deliver a coalition letter, continuing to call for an end to new oil and gas leasing and drilling across New Mexico, and an end to the federal fossil fuel program, which is responsible for more than one-quarter of U.S. climate emissions.
Join us in delivering the message that continuing to sacrifice public and ancestral lands for more oil and gas drilling is fueling climate chaos and taking a devastating toll on our clean air, pure water, and healthy lands.

Background:
This rally culminates a series of actions held at BLM offices throughout the state where we delivered our message to act on climate, end the legacy of sacrifice zones, and to phase out fracking on public lands.
The New Mexico State Office knows what is required to protect people and the planet. President Biden promised to end new oil and gas leasing on public lands, yet has overseen more drilling permits than President Trump. More extraction perpetuates environmental injustice that disproportionately threatens the health, safety, and well-being of people of color, Tribal and Indigenous communities, and families with fewer means.
No more broken promises. The time is now to address the climate crisis and to prioritize environmental justice.
Co-hosts: The Greater Chaco Coalition, Permian Basin Climate Justice Coalition, Center for Biological Diversity, New Mexico & El Paso Interfaith Power and Light, New Mexico Climate Justice, Pueblo Action Alliance, Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter, WildEarth Guardians, Western Environmental Law Center
