IPL is committed to making great strides in our mission to take bold, justice-focused action on climate change. This year’s conference will focus on Climate Justice. The goal is to center racial equity within our work so that we can collectively pursue intentional and meaningful solutions on the local, state, and national levels.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Climate Solutions Through Truth, Justice and Reconciliation”. This conference will include presentations, trainings, and workshops by both IPL leaders and outside experts. The third day of our conference will be our lobby day event.
Together, we will:
-
Build the IPL network strength through reconciliation by building upon the work within our circles of belonging process
-
Deepen our shared understanding of climate justice by being intentional about anti-racism work and building trust to strengthen collective action
-
Speak truth to power by unearthing the history of environmental injustice and listening to the voices of frontline communities
-
Advocate for climate solutions together by collectively participating in lobby day on issues pertaining to climate justice
The conference will be held May 8-10, 2023 in Washington, DC at the Kellogg Conference Hotel at Gallaudet University. Many people will choose to come on Sunday May 7th and we will have an informal dinner that night. The conference officially begins Monday morning. Our lobby day will take place after the two-day conference. We ask your support in attending legislative meetings on our federal legislative priorities on Wednesday May 10th. We’ll provide more details about this in the coming weeks and we’ll will provide both lobbying and federal policy trainings at the conference.
This conference is open to up to two (2) IPL state leaders per state affiliate, IPL national staff, and IPL national board members. This conference is not meant to be merely informational, but also transformational as we strive to become a network that centers Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in our work.
Registration for the conference will begin next week. Please look for an emailed registration form at that time.
