350 Santa Fe is hosting a special showing of the documentary Powerlands on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at the Center for Contemporary Arts (CCA), 1050 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe, NM 87505.
We’ll meet the director, Ivey Camille Manybeads Tso, at 6 pm, then watch this award-winning film together. Afterwards, there will be a Q&A session with her about the movie and learn more about the issues presented.
“Powerlands highlights the displacement of indigenous peoples and the devastation of the environment by energy companies that exploit the land to the detriment of the Native people on them.” For the film maker, the making of Powerlands was a personal journey that spanned seven years and included conversations with indigenous people, not only here in New Mexico, but across the globe. The results have been as inspirational as they are powerful. Her analysis of colonial dynamics between energy companies and Native peoples shows the devastation of the land and Native cultures. as well as resistance efforts Native peoples have mounted in response.
