Our Core Belief is that the Active Care of the Natural World is Integral to Spiritual Life and Social Justice

New Mexico Interfaith Power & Light works for climate justice by mobilizing faith communities, faith leaders and people of faith to reduce the causes and consequences of global climate change through religious inspiration, education, outreach, implementation of sustainable practices and advocating effective climate protection policies.

We are blessed to be a large interfaith community of love in action in New Mexico. Every voice is important.

Welcome our new Executive Director

Several months ago I shared that I would be stepping down as Executive Director of Interfaith Power and Light. After alot of prayers, search effort, work and discernment I and the board and team of IPL are so pleased to introduce our New Executive Director, Désirée Bernard. She began work this week and everyone is so excited. Please welcome her and help her feel at home in our wonderful community!

Désirée has a deep passion for the integration of spirituality, religious traditions and climate justice work. She began this life passion during her undergraduate degree with environmental study classes and the accompanying examinations of the intersectionalities of (in)justice. Her heart led her to complete a Master’s of Divinity degree at Harvard University followed by work in various non-profits and as executive director of a service non-profit recently. Desiree can be reached at desiree@nm-ipl.org.

Her work and gifts will be shared with the current team of Rev. Clara Sims, Assistant Executive Director and Carlos Navarro, communications and data work. I will be stepping back, but continuing to work very part-time within the area of climate and oil and gas and with the wonderful Citizens Caring for the Future with whom we work closely with in SE New Mexico.

It has been a sacred privilege to help begin and work with IPL and all of you over the almost 20 years of our organization. The spiritual and ethical voices of caring for our sacred communities, land, water, air and climate are more essential now than ever. Thank you for your faithful part in this essential work.  -Sister Joan Brown, OSF
