IPL Seeks Executive Director 

Interfaith Power and Light, New Mexico & El Paso Region seeking an individual who demonstrates self-initiative, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to serving the common good to enact meaningful change.

The work involves engaging in climate justice initiatives from a spiritual, ethical, and moral perspective. The organization’s focus is on climate justice through educational programs, practical projects including energy audits, solar energy implementation, and land/water conservation efforts, as well as public policy advocacy.

This position is permanent and facilitated from a home office, requiring in-person engagement with interfaith communities, individuals of faith and conscience, and community organizations. The organizational model is based on fostering teamwork and community building, utilizing both in-person and hybrid meetings and events. Candidates should have experience or a keen interest in learning about interfaith organizations. Fundraising and management skills are essential, along with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse viewpoints and individuals. Job Description

Full-time (40 hrs. approx. exempt) $59,000 – $65,000 a year with increases according to performance and funding. The Executive Director is the public face of the organization working closely with faith communities and community organizations in a variety of situations. The Executive Director is responsible for the leadership and direction of the organization and oversees all operational and programmatic activities of the organization. The Executive Director is accountable to the organization’s Board of Directors.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

● Oversees budget, financial systems, and organizational accountability. Manages budget, cost
accounting, procedures, and non-profit reports.
● Supervises grants, fundraising, and reporting. Has primary responsibility for fundraising,
grants, grant reporting, and donor engagement and growth with the board.
● Collaborates with the Associate Director, staff, board, volunteers, and faith leaders.
● Represents the organization with high standards, leadership, and ethical and moral voice on
climate issues, together with the Associate Director.
● Provides public speaking, presentations, and spiritual reflections as necessary. Represents
the organization at events, hearings, educational programs, and prayer events or services.
● Reports organizational progress to the volunteer board of directors. Works with and is
accountable to the board of directors.
● Collaborates with the board and staff on program development, planning, and organizational
mission. Supervises staff, contract workers, organizers, and volunteers by offering necessary
support and mentoring in a collaborative model.
● Collaborates with and supports staff and volunteers through committee work, events, public
policy advocacy, and other needs as they arise:
a. Oversees the success, evaluations, and directions of work for various committees and
programs.
b. Assists in developing leadership, particularly among young adults and young adult leaders.
● Works respectfully with diverse religious traditions, political views, cultures, and urban and
rural populations across all of New Mexico and the El Paso region.
● Assists with communications, media, writing, and outward-facing written and social media through newsletters, press releases, columns, etc.
● Leads and facilitates meetings.
● Collaborates with various community organizations addressing climate concerns.

Work Hours and Benefits

The work environment is relaxed, with flexible hours, within a small, non-competitive non-profit setting. It is a remote position, with access to various faith communities for larger meetings.
Work-related travel expenses are reimbursed. This position requires work and/or travel some weekends.
FLEX TIME: Employees can set hours for work within the parameter of working and being available the majority of the week between the core hours of 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Employee will provide the proposed flextime schedule to the board and staff.
COMP TIME: If work commitments require expending more time in a given week than the basic hours, Employee may take compensatory time in the pay period the compensatory time accrued or in the subsequent two pay periods. If Employee earns compensatory time, s/he will provide documentation of the hours worked and taken as compensatory.

Executive Director Qualifications / Skills:

REQUIRED:
● Demonstrated experience in non-profit management including fundraising and grant development and management
● Demonstrated leadership and management skills
● Demonstrated supervisory experience
● Some knowledge of the inter-faith realm or willingness to study and learn
● Experience working with community groups, faith-based entities, organizations and knowledge of the New Mexico and El Paso Region.
● Ability to multitask
● Takes initiative and works independently
● Creative problem-solving skills
● Flexible and collaborative
● Organized
● Excellent reading, writing and speaking skills
● Must have dependable transportation. Availability for overnight travel within the state.
● Computer proficiency to do reports, communications and research.
● Must have a personal cell phone and data plan.
● Must have personal computer and wifi access

PREFERRED:
● Bachelor’s degree or other relevant formal education or equivalent documented professional experience
● At least one year of demonstrated non-profit management including fundraising
● Spanish proficiency a plus
